Case studies: Gold's Gym
Client: Gold's Gym
Requirement: Evaporative Cooling System for fitness centre
Solution: Breezair Evaporative Cooling System

When the directors of the newly opened Gold’s Gym in Camberley obtained quotes for installing air conditioning in the Club they were stunned to be quoted £225,000 for the 1,500 square metre facility. After researching alternative cooling options, they opted for the Breezair evaporative cooling system from UK exclusive distributor CoSaf Environments.

Gold's Gym Evaporative Cooling Case Study

CoSaf was able to provide a costing for the design, supply and installation of the Breezair system that was 75% below the air conditioning quotation. In addition, the Breezair system is providing the Club with 80% savings on running costs, as the only power-consuming components of direct evaporative cooling are the fan and small water pump.

“As well as being only a fraction of the cost to install and run, the Breezair system is also environmentally friendly using no ozone depleting refrigerant gases”, said Nigel Snart, Director at Gold’s Gym in Camberley. “We were really impressed with the number of awards won by Breezair and the fact that the air is changed ten times an hour, which means there are no odors in the gym or studios”, he concluded.

The Breezair system provides a comfortable environment throughout every area of the Club, which is especially appreciated by members when they are exercising. As no air is recirculated around the building, the internal air quality is improved and germs and airborne contaminants are removed making for a much healthier environment.

Now, four Breezair Icon coolers have been installed on the roof of the building with stale air being removed through extractor fans and cool air distributed via a low velocity FabricDuct. Cooling is controlled by an Industrial Wall Controller (IWC), which enables Gold’s Gym to set and manage the temperature at the touch of a button. Air changes are carried out every few minutes resulting in a steady flow of naturally cooled, fresh air. Temperatures are now 5°C below ambient temperature providing staff and members with a healthy, cool environment.

Located on the second floor of the newly built Atrium Centre in Camberley, Gold’s Gym is part of the largest chain of health and fitness clubs in the world. The club offers all the latest Startrac cardio and strength training equipment along with dynamic group exercise programmes such as spinning, yoga, mixed martial arts, etc. The hi-tech facility includes gym, changing rooms, tanning room, studios, saunas, shop and health bar and coffee shop.

“Our members are constantly remarking on the air quality and how pleasant it is to have fresh, cool air instead of the recirculated air provide by air conditioning”, continued Nigel Snart. “We are delighted with the system and have recommended it to other leisure centre groups as the ideal cooling system for health clubs.”

The Breezair system is housed in a simple, clean, ultra-modern designed plastic casing specially developed to withstand all weather conditions. The Breezair's state-of-the-art components include an innovative water distribution system, which delivers continuous, balanced water coverage to all the heat exchanger pads. The world-patented system ensures maximum cooling efficiency and minimal maintenance problems.

An innovatively designed, aerodynamic fan provides a constant, even flow of air over the pads to provide a welcome cool breeze with minimal noise and low energy consumption. Other pioneering components include a highly efficient water pump that guarantees constant and reliable cooling when most needed, and a long lasting variable speed motor that gives maximum comfort level control.
